The library of the Center

The library of the Padre Félix Varela Cultural Center, has  great  literary, scientific and historical compilations, today is presented as a space sponsored by the Institute of Ecclesiastical Studies, in order to complement the educational, investigative and informative needs of its students.

Although its collections are oriented towards the institute’s study programs, this bibliographic collection has a general character and is capable of offering traditional and specialized services to all users of the Cultural Center.

Among its benefits are the loans in room, the partial reproduction of archived documents, the references, the compilation of information and the bibliographic novelties, disclosed through a bulletin. In addition, the room serves as a space for exhibitions of relevant texts, courses and cultural activities such as the annual Christmas Readings competition.

With more than 12,000 books available to readers, the library contains rare and valuable volumes of Political Economy, Theology, Philosophy and History, from the Cuban Room of the Old San Carlos and San Ambrosio Seminary, from the Archbishop’s libraries, the Casa Laical and the personal archive of Cardinal Jaime Ortega. Numerous writings of Father Felix Varela are preserved as one of the main treasures.
Its six workers, specialized in librarianship and information, prepare a digital collection of a size equivalent to the printed one. As value-added offers, the center guarantees book summaries and automated search.
